Under the leadership of their captain, Nuutti Niinivaara, Hurrikaani-Loimaa won all five of their January matches, collecting a full 15 points. Niinivaara recorded 39/+29 for the month without a single attacking error and was blocked only once in the five matches. His attacking efficiency was an impressive 83%.
The women’s Player of the Month, Ada Aronen, contributed to four monthly victories for Puijo Wolley. She played four matches with 75/+40 statistics, serving as the team’s leading player not only in attack but also in reception.
The women’s January All-Star Team is identical to the December team, with the exception of one player. Three players were selected from Pölkky Kuusamo, who won all five of their matches: setter Annie Cooke, opposite Megija Dambrehte, and outside hitter Aliyah Carter. The All-Star Team also includes LP Viesti’s middle blockers Ella Autere and Emmi Mäki-Kojola, as well as libero Emmi Riikilä. The seven-player lineup is completed by Puijo Wolley’s Ada Aronen. Mäki-Kojola is the only first-time All-Star selection.
In the men’s All-Star Team, Hurrikaani-Loimaa secured five spots thanks to their undefeated month. In addition to Player of the Month Niinivaara, the All-Star selections from Loimaa include setter Joel Laakso, middle blocker Juho Kaunisto, outside hitter Viktor Viljamaa, and opposite Eetu Häyrinen. The remaining selections are Akaa-Volley’s libero Kandai Goto and Kokkolan Tiikerit’s outside hitter Shae McIntyre.
First-time selections in the men’s All-Star Team are McIntyre, Goto, and Niinivaara.
Players of the Month have been chosen since 2003; this was the 143rd selection. All-Star Teams have been named monthly since 2010.
Selections are made by the head coaches of the Mestaruusliiga teams.
